Title: I AM EVAN.
Location: JP Farm Animal Sanctuary
Caption: When I finished editing this image something happened to me that has never happened to me before at the end of an edit. I put the image in full-screen view and stepped back from my computer to give it a final look (as I always do), and then I cried. Evan was discarded as waste by the dairy industry. He was 7 months old when I took this photo and, had it not been for the amazing human beings at Farm Sanctuary and JP Farm Animal Sanctuary, he would not have been alive for me to capture this image. Evan is one of the most beautiful beings I have ever seen and he was thrown away like trash.
The reality is that millions of male calves born into the dairy industry every year are not as lucky as Evan. Since male cows cannot produce milk, they are typically sold off for veal or sometimes simply left to starve to death. It is difficult for me to wrap my head around the fact that this is how our species treats some of the most innocent beings on the planet, and for the first 26 years of my life I contributed to this.
